Christmas at Grace

Grace Church is gearing up for and eagerly anticipating Christmas worship with all of you this year! Are you a first time guest and curious as to what to expect? Do you have questions about the services? Details can be found listed below!

What kind of church is Grace?

God’s grace welcomes you, no matter who you are or where you come from--and so do we. First and foremost, Grace is a Christian church. We believe that Jesus Christ is the true Savior of all people. By his perfect life, innocent death, and triumphant resurrection, he saves all lost sinners even without our help.

Grace is a Lutheran church affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

What Christmas services are available at Grace this year?

A Service of Lessons and Carols at 7:45, 9 & 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17, this musical celebration of Advent and Christmas carols features choirs, organ, and instruments, and puts to music our anticipation and joy for the humble and glorious coming of the Savior.

Grace Church offers three different services on Christmas Eve and one service on Christmas Day.

The 4 p.m. service, Family Christmas Eve, features the Sunday School children and the teen and adult choirs of Grace as they present the timeless message of the Christ-child.

The 6:30 p.m. service, Christmas Eve Festival, echoes the songs of the angels and shepherds who proclaimed the Savior's birth. Through Christmas hymns, prayers, and sermon, we rejoice in the brightness of the true light--Jesus is born in Bethlehem!

The 10 p.m. service, Christmas Eve Candlelight, is a quiet, reflective worship service combining familiar Christmas readings with beloved songs and carols.

The 10 a.m. service, Christmas Day Festival, shares the good news of the eternal Word who became a man and lived among us. Choirs, organs, and instruments enhance the preaching of the Word and celebration of the Sacrament.

What services will be live streamed this year?

The 6:30 p.m. Christmas Eve service, along with the 10 a.m. Christmas Day service, will be live streamed via the Grace YouTube channel.

Is there worship on Sunday morning (Dec. 24, 2023)?

Yes! Grace is offering regular Sunday morning worship at all three regular service times--7:45, 9 and 10:30 a.m.--on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023.

Grace will only cancel Sunday morning worship in the event of a blizzard or other bad weather that makes it impossible for the pastors and stream team to make it to the sanctuary.
In the event of bad weather, please watch our social media pages, your inbox, and WISN 12 for any and all weather-related closures.

What should I wear?

Whatever you feel the most comfortable in! Want to don a Christmas suit or dress? Great! Prefer to wear a Christmas sweater and jeans instead? Also great!

Where can I find parking?

We encourage you to give yourself enough time to arrive and locate parking, since it fills up pretty quickly! Street parking can be found along Juneau, Broadway, Knapp, and Market streets. Parking should be free all day on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Please read posted signage carefully, as some streets have special rules for holidays and/or in the event of a snow emergency.

What if my kids get restless?

Jesus said "let the little children come to me," so parents shouldn't feel obligated to leave worship just because little ones are participating in their own way. But if you would like to take little ones out, the Parish Center offers quiet and minimally stimulating spaces perfect for restless young ones. There is a church nursery (unstaffed on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) available for use, as well as a private room off of the nursery that offers a changing table and rocking chair--perfect for mothers seeking a calm atmosphere for breastfeeding.

Will there be Holy Communion?

The Sacrament will be offered on Christmas Eve, during the 7:45, 9 & 10 a.m. service on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2023.

We kindly ask that visitors who are not members of WELS/ELS congregations to connect with a pastor before joining in the Sacrament to learn about our practices.

What if I have other questions?

If you have other questions, please contact the church office either by calling 414-271-3006 or by emailing data@gracedowntown.org. Carolyn will forward your inquiries to the correct pastor, called worker, or staff member.
