Worship and Bible Class

Midweek Lent Worship at Grace—Midweek Lenten services wrap up at Grace next Wednesdays, Apr. 6, 2022, with one service time: 12:10-12:40 p.m. (perfect for attending worship over the lunch hour for those who work downtown). In lieu of an evening service, the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary Chorus will present a sacred concert at 7 p.m., with a meal being served beforehand at 6 p.m. in the Grace Center Great Hall. Please RSVP via the online sign-up (found under the Connect tab on the Grace website) so our events team knows how much food to prepare. This year’s theme for Lent is:

“What Shall I Do with Jesus?”

Christian Freedom: New Sunday Morning Bible Class—When we have freedom, we seem to have everything. When we don’t, life becomes very difficult. Explore one of God’s greatest gifts to you with Christian Freedom, the current Sunday Bible class here at Grace Church. Offered at 9 and 10:15 a.m. in the Grace Center Great Hall, enjoy fresh coffee, juice, treats and catching up with your Grace friends, all while diving into the Word!

Sunday School—Sunday school takes place at 9 a.m. in the lower level of the Parish Center, and is currently exploring the life of Jesus. Details about topics for each Sunday can be found in the current newsletter. Questions, contact Family Minister Drew Carter at dcarter@gracedowntown.org.


Lenten Meal Sign-Up—If you are planning to join for the Lenten suppers, please sign-up via the online form (under the Connect tab on the Grace website or via the midweek Lent emails) or through the form in the Parish Center. Signing up helps our events office determine how much food to purchase and prepare. The sign-up also includes the menu for each week. Thank you in advance!

Lenten Meal Volunteers Needed—Grace needs volunteers to help prepare and serve Lenten meals on Apr. 6 (this date coincides with the Seminary Chorus and their performance at Grace). About 4-5 volunteers are needed, who can arrive between 4-4:15 p.m. to help prepare the meal before serving starts at 5:45 p.m. If you are willing to volunteer, there is a physical sign-up sheet in the Parish Center below the bulletin board, or you can email Drew Carter at dcarter@gracedowntown.org.

Easter Flowers—Help adorn the altar for Easter with beautiful spring flowers! Pick up an envelope from the Parish Center counter and deposit it into the box with your payment. Selections and prices are listed on the envelopes; please make checks payable to Grace Lutheran Church. Orders must be in by tomorrow, Monday, Apr. 4, 2022.

Clean up the Church for Easter—All Grace members are invited to help get our beautiful church building ready for Easter! Join us for a little spring cleaning next Saturday, Apr. 9, 2022. from 9:30-11 a.m. Lend a hand with general cleaning, polishing trim and woodwork, changing light bulbs, etc. If you can help, please email Drew Carter, dcarter@gracedowntown.org. Arrive at the church entryway and work for as long as fits your schedule.

Grace in Action: Volunteer Opportunity with Hunger Task Force - On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, from 1-4 p.m., a small group from Grace will help fill stockboxes with food for the elderly and low income families at the new Hunger Task Force warehouse (5000 W. WELS Youth Rally: Registration Now Open! The WELS Youth Rally is back this summer, June 28-July 1, 2022, in Knoxville, Tennessee—and Grace is going! The youth rally is a fantastic opportunity for teens (8th grade graduates and up) to get out of the house, develop fellowship with both Grace teens and teens from around the country, and to be encouraged by presenters and peers through faith-based workshops. Registration is now open until May 31, 2022. New Podcast: Life Challenges—Suicide. Suffering. Science and ethics. Keeping your children in the faith. Parenthood’s burdens and blessings. Chances are one or more of these topics may have touched your life, yet how often are they approached from a distinctly Lutheran perspective? WLHS Work Days—Do you have yard work or spring cleaning that needs to get done such as hedge trimming, or window washing? Consider hiring hard-working members of WLHS student council for a few hours for a free-will donation. All money raised will go towards the 2021-22 WLHS mission project to Malawi and Grenada. Work days will be held on any Saturday or Sunday starting Apr. 9-10 through May 7-8 (excluding Easter and Mother’s Day Sundays). To request a team, please email workdays@wlhs.org and include your name, address, phone number, the work you need accomplished, and the day(s) this work could be completed.

WLHS Spring Sacred Choral Concert—Wisconsin Lutheran High School Choral Department presents their Spring Sacred Choral Concert on Sunday, Apr. 10, at 7 p.m. in the WLHS auditorium. This free, general admission concert will feature sacred music by the A Cappella Choir, Freshman Choir, Inspiration Vocal Jazz and Chamber Choir, and Jubilation Handbells.

Seminary Scurry 2022—On Saturday, Apr. 30, 2022, Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary is once again hosting its annual “Seminary Scurry!” This family outing invites WELS members all over our area to the seminary campus for a 5K Scurry and ½ Mile Kids Dash. The event includes a bounce house, face painting, tours of the campus, and a lunch for everyone in attendance. Registration for adults is $20, with those 18 and under granted free admission. WLHS International Host Family Informational Meeting—Wisconsin Lutheran High School is hosting an informational session on Monday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. regarding their host family program. The growing international program at WLHS is in need of caring, supportive, mission-minded families to take in our international students over some of the school breaks throughout the year. This includes hosting opportunities for Thanksgiving break (half-week), Christmas break (two weeks), and spring break (one week). Families are also needed for yearlong international student hosting. Stipends are provided for all these hosting opportunities.
