Sign-up sheets go live Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Questions about re-opening procedures, contact Pastor Strong at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Divine Call—Pastor Ryan Kolander, currently serving as the pastor of Palabra de Vida Lutheran Church in Detroit, MI, has been called to serve as our associate pastor here at Grace. Please keep him and his wife, Sarah, as well as Grace, in your prayers as he deliberates both his calls.
Annual Grace Campout Updates—The annual Grace campout is still happening! Join your Grace family July 24-26, 2020, at the Long Lake Campground in Kettle Moraine State Forest’s Northern Unit. The state parks have some changes they are enforcing, which can be found online at dnr.wi.gov. Due to these changes, there will be no group cookout Friday night, so please plan accordingly with your meals. If you would like to make a reservation, please do so online at wisconsin.goingtocamp.com, or by phone at 1-888-947-2757. Make reservations in the upper 900s loop or the lower 900s to be near other Grace members. If you have any questions you can contact Chris Midthun at Chrismidthun@wi.rr.com. If you have already made reservations (or when you do), send an email to Drew Carter at email@example.com letting him know and how many are in your group.
Do What You Want & See If God Cares: A Bible Study on the Book of Judges
Sunday Morning Bible Class—Last Class This Sunday
Picture yourself driving down a freeway on a long trip. Suddenly, your tires hit a stretch of gravel and potholes, and you find yourself weaving between huge, heavy construction machinery. Where were the orange barrels and warning signs? Now imagine living your life with no clue on how to deal with the reality of life’s “gravel and potholes.” You might wonder where were the warning signs? God wants us to understand the realities of life and to be able to cope with life’s “gravel and potholes,” so he posts a huge warning sign. It’s called the Book of Judges. Join us, Sundays via YouTube at 10 a.m. The last topic is:
“The Rest of the Story ... and It Isn’t Pretty” (part 2).
First Fridays Presents “America, I Like You”—First Fridays is back! Tim Rebers, tenor and Maggie Rebers, piano, present “America, I Like You: Songs by, for & about Americans” on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary. The program will showcase a variety of classical, folk, jazz, and musical theater selections that are distinctly American. Attend either in-person (masks required), or watch from the comfort of your home via the Grace YouTube channel! Concert is free, donations are graciously accepted.
Happy Hobby Hour: Cigars—Happy Hobby Hour is returning with an annual favorite—cigars! Join Grace members Joe Gruzska and Troy Hergert on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. in the Grace Center surface parking lot for cigars and fellowship! Learn briefly about the history of cigars and the different types out there. Cost is $5 and includes delicious appetizers, one free drink ticket, cigars, and raffle entry. Physical and social distancing will be encouraged, masks required (per City of Milwaukee ordinances), and hand sanitizer will be provided. Attendees will be able to pay cash in-person, or sign-up and pay online via Eventbrite.
5th-6th Grade Confirmation Class—Parents of children in a non-WELS Lutheran elementary school, we plan to start up Confirmation classes in October here at Grace. Last year we started a 5th and 6th grade class to go along with our 7th and 8th grade course. If your child is going into 5th or 6th grade, isn’t attending a Lutheran Elementary School, and you haven’t already heard from us, please email Drew Carter at firstname.lastname@example.org for information and to add your child’s name to our list!
#SamePageSummer Reading Challenge—Join your Grace family in reading the entire New Testament! Focus on the last 27 books of the Bible in five (sometimes six) weekly readings. Download a schedule on the Grace website, grab a Bible (or your mobile device of choice) and get started! This plan is also available on YouVersion, an app that allows you to stay connected with fellow readers, track your progress, and load each day's reading—less work for you and it even comes with audio options. Let's consume the Bible together this summer, by being on (literally) the same page!
Grace in Action Shoe Drive—Grace in Action is ready to finally collect those shoes you've been storing up during COVID! Now through July 19, we are collecting gently used shoes to be sent to Africa. A collection bin will be in the Parish Center at church. Shoes can also be dropped off at the Grace Center office (office hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday; ring the door buzzer to get in). Questions, contact Kathy Schlecht via email at email@example.com or call 414-870-5221.
