Pastor Bondow Farewell—Pastor Bondow has accepted his call to serve as pastor at Living Savior in Littleton, Colorado, and Grace would like to thank him and his family for being a part of the Grace family for the past six years. A farewell gathering has been set for Sunday, Nov. 24, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the Grace Center Great Hall. Details will be in future GraceNotes. We ask that you continue to keep Pastor Bondow, his family, Living Savior and Grace in your prayers.

Call Meeting—A call meeting is scheduled for next Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019, at 11:45 a.m. in the church, following the last Sunday service. The purpose of the meeting is to fill the vacancy soon to be left open by Pastor Bondow. All are encouraged to attend!

Annual Open Fora—Grace’s annual open fora is set for Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019. As in years past, the open fora will take place in the lower level of the church, with two sessions available: 9 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. (there will be no Sunday morning Bible class). Crispy bacon, decadent doughnuts and other delicious refreshments will be provided by the church council. The agenda for this year’s discussions will include an update on the Grace Abounds initiative, small-group breakout sessions conducting SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analyses, and time for questions from those in attendance. Advent By Candlelight—Advent by Candlelight (ABC) is set for Saturday, Dec. 7, 3-5:15 p.m., in the Grace Center Great Hall. This annual event allows women to focus their hearts on Christ during the busy Advent season while sharing in fellowship with each other.

Volunteer Hostesses are needed: Hostesses decorate their tables and provide a friendly atmosphere for their guests. Hostesses have the opportunity to co-host with a friend, invite their own guests or use this as a chance to make new ones! Sign up to host a table before Sunday, Nov. 3. Sign up sheets are in the Grace and Parish Centers. Baby Shower for Hackmanns—Women of Grace is hosting a baby shower for the Hackmanns on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, noon until 2:30 p.m. in the Grace Center classroom. The Hackmanns are registered at Target, and in lieu of diapers (since babies change size so fast!) gift cards would be greatly appreciated.

First Fridays Presents Florestan Duo—On Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, Florestan Duo presents “Two Hamburgers with a Side of Schumann.” Comprised of Stefan Kartman, cello, and Jeannie Yu, piano, this program highlights 19th century romantic composers from the heart of Germany. Concert begins at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary, and will last approximately an hour. Concert is free and open to the public.

Grace Fine Art & Craft Festival—Set for Sunday, Nov. 3, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Grace Center Great Hall, enjoy the handcrafted work of more than 25 local artisans from around Milwaukee and Wisconsin. Items include woodwork puzzles, photography and prints, mixed media, jewelry, illustrations, soap, body care products, confections and more! Enjoy live music while you shop, and the first 100 guests who bring a non-perishable food item will be given a re-usable canvas bag.

Happy Hobby Hour: Wine Tasting—Back by popular demand, enjoy wine tasting with Grace member and wine expert Anthony Crowder on Friday, Nov. 8, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Grace Center classroom! Learn about the variety of wines on the market while sampling a handful too! Cost is $5 and includes appetizers and several wines to taste. Attendees must be 21 or older. Annual Grace Camp-Out—he reservation window is already open for next summer’s annual camp out at Long Lake Campground in the northern unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest, just northeast of Kewauskum (about an hour drive from the zoo). This is not a group camp so everyone needs to make reservations for their own camp sites. This can be done at or by calling 1-888-947-2757. Reserve for any evenings July 23-25, 2020 with departure on Sunday, July 26—whatever fits your schedule and tolerance level! Ask for a site in the upper 900s loop (sites 922-967). Some now are already non-reservable, so if you can’t get one in the upper, go for the lower 900s nearby. Details on joint devotions, church service, etc. will be sent to you in July. Grace in Action November Event—Join Grace in Action in creating and filling food stock boxes for senior citizens with Hunger Task Force on Saturday, Nov. 9, 1-4 p.m, at 300 E. College Ave., in the MKE Regional Business Park (just south of the airport). Kids ages 12-15 are welcome with an adult chaperone, youth ages 16+ can volunteer independently. St. John's Reformation Festival Service
St. John’s on the Hillside is hosting the Reformation Festival Service on Sunday, October 27 at 3 pm for the congregations of the Milwaukee Urban Conference, the Milwaukee Metro Conference, and more than forty other WELS congregations in southeastern Wisconsin. The guest preacher is Rev. David Kolander, president of the SEW District of the WELS, with music by The Lutheran Chorale of Milwaukee, directed by Levi Nagel. It is a service that also includes holy communion as we celebrate the fellowship that we share as confessors of the truth. We are expecting about 400 people.
