Opposition to Christ Can Come Our Way. No one enjoys opposition to what they believe. No one usually looks forward to receiving flack. But the reality is that opposition to what we believe and know to be true from Holy Scripture will come. How do we handle that? God’s word and promise shift our attitude from fear of opposition to the recognition that we are blessed when we face opposition because through it our trust in the Lord Jesus is deepened.

Sermon on Hebrews 12:1-13 preached at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church by Pastor Brian Hackmann.

Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift of grace that we come into your presence and offer true and faithful service. Grant that our worship on earth may always be pleasing to you, and in the life to come give us the fulfillment of what you have promised; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Hold on to the promises of God. Life is full of surprises, some good and some bad. We place our lives in the hands of the man who stilled the waters, Jesus our Lord, knowing that he always has out eternal interest in mind.

Sermon on Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16 preached at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church by Pastor James Huebner.

Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve. Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Earthly wealth is passing. Where to find true happiness? Would you agree that many look for happiness in the material things of this world? Have you been down that road? The readings for our worship today remind us that everything of this world, including our money, is passing away. Seek the one treasure that will endure, and find it in Jesus who gives us the treasure of eternal life that can never perish, spoil, or fade.

Sermon on Colossians 3:1-11 preached at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church by Pastor Daniel Bondow.

O Lord, grant us wisdom to recognize the treasures you have stored up for us in heaven that we may never despair but always rejoice and be thankful for the riches of your grace; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
