Seminary Assignments—The Lord in his wisdom over all things and love for all people has called graduates of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary into the pastoral ministry. These men received their assignments Thursday, including Michael Hollmann, Grace’s Seminary Student Assistant. Mike was assigned to serve as an associate pastor at St. Mark in Eau Claire, WI. Also receiving their assignments this week are Grace member Luke Thomford, who will serve as vicar of Beautiful Savior in Grove City, OH, and Grace member Elizabeth (née Shorewood) Knox’s husband Jesse Knox, at St. Paul in Stevensville, MI. All graduate and vicar assignments are posted on the seminary's website, wls.wels.net.
Door Offering—Today, we will collect a door offering for Michael Hollmann, to to show our appreciation for his service at Grace and to support and encourage him and his family as he continues in ministry.
Ascension Celebration—Come for a celebration of world missions and Ascension Day on Thursday, May 30, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Grace Center. Pastor Brad Wordell, who is on faculty at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in a special role coordinating world mission seminaries, will be the guest speaker. Dinner will be served as well. First Fridays Presents Cecilia Davis—Soprano Cecilia Davis will perform on Friday, June 7, at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary. Her recent credits include Tales of Hoffmann and Carmina Burana (Skylight Music Theatre). Her program includes Debussy’s “Ariettes oubliées,” Handel arias, selections by Bizet, and Bernstein and other American composers. First Friday concerts are free and open to the public.
Happy Hobby Hour: Dartball—Give this fun, alternative sport a try on Friday, June 14, as Northside Lutheran Mens Dartball League members Jeff and Tom show you the ropes! Cost is $5, and includes drink ticket, supplies for dartball, and raffle entry. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m., in the Grace Center. RSVP HERE or call the church office at 414-271-3006.
Grace in Action June Event—Work the Hunger Task Force Farm, (9000 S. 68th St., Franklin) with Grace in Action, 8:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 15. Volunteers must be 16 years or older; ages 12-15 allowed with a chaperone. Possible activities may include harvesting lettuce, transplanting crops or weeding. Kayak the Milwaukee River with Rooted MKE—Enjoy a day of kayaking on the Milwaukee River Saturday, June 22, 1-5 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. This event is kid friendly and open to everyone, so bring your friends, family, and coworkers! For those 21 and over, drinks are allowed in the kayaks, and the 21+ group will be docking at a few bars for drinks. Please read Milwaukee Kayak Co.’s waiver on their website and RSVP to Josh Grefe by June 7 via email@example.com to ensure there are enough kayaks for all!
Church Picnic—Sunday, June 23, is the date for the Grace Church Picnic! Picnic starts at noon at LaFollette Park (1100 S. 92nd St., West Allis—two blocks north of Greenfield Ave). The park features an indoor shelter, wading pool, basketball court, kickball field, jungle gym, and tennis court. Hamburgers, hot dogs, all utensils and soft drinks will be provided. Please bring a dish to pass, and if anyone would like to bring a dessert as well, it would be greatly appreciated! If you’d like adult beverages, you may bring your own. A freewill offering will be taken to help off-set the cost of the picnic. Sign up soon so our cooks know how much food to purchase—sign-up sheets are located in both the Parish Center and Grace Center, as well as online at under the Connect tab. Sunday Morning Grace Center Hosts Needed—Grace is seeking more smiling faces to greet members, visitors, and guests that visit the coffee shop or attend Bible Study in the Great Hall on Sunday mornings! Tasks may include replenishing treats for Bible Study, monitoring the parking lot, and assisting the coffee shop barista with closing duties. Building hosts are stationed in the Grace Center atrium, near the Juneau Ave. entrance. Free coffee drink of choice from Grace Place during your shift!
