Called Worker Updates—Grace extended a call to Pastor Jonathan E. Scharf to serve as a fourth pastor. Please keep both him and Grace in your prayers as he continues to deliberate. Drew Carter was assigned to serve Grace as Minister of Discipleship. He starts July 1, after current Fritz Horn’s retirement at the end of June. God’s blessings as Grace’s ministry continues to grow!
Seminary Assignments—The Lord in his wisdom over all things and love for all people has called graduates of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary into the pastoral ministry. These men received their assignments Thursday, including Lucas Proeber, Grace’s Seminary Student Assistant. Lucas was assigned to serve as an associate pastor at St. Paul in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Also receiving their assignments this week: Chester Reinemann will serve as vicar of Faith in Sharpsburg, GA; Scott Henrich, husband of Grace choir director Sarah Henrich, will be pastor at Shepherd of the Hills in Knoxville, TN. All graduate and vicar assignments are posted on the seminary’s website, wls.wels.net.
Door Offering for Lucas Proeber Today—Grace’s senior seminary student assistant Lucas Proeber preaches today, and as in years past, Grace is taking a door offering for Lucas, to thank him for his year of service with us and to support and encourage him and his wife, Amy, as he continues to serve the ministry at St. Paul in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
First Fridays: Looking for Love—Local actress and soprano Natalie Ford is joined by Grace members Tim and Maggie Rebers for an evening of beloved ballads and duets from Broadway’s best and biggest musicals! Friday, June 1, at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary; light refreshments to follow.
Happy Hobby Hour: Cigars—Kick your Friday night off right with cigars and fellowship! On Friday, June 8, beginning at 5:30 p.m., learn about cigars and their history with Uhle’s Tobacco Company, all while enjoying a relaxing evening with friends. Job Openings at Grace—Grace is now seeking candidates for:
Assistant Manager for Grace Place Coffee. Grace Place seeks a coffee lover, who wants to work a couple weekday mornings as well as a weekend or two a month to meet neighbors and members, serve great food and drinks, and help with day-to-day tasks. Youth Rally Chaperones Needed—On June 26-29, teenagers from Grace will travel to Bowling Green, Ohio for the WELS National Youth Rally, and are looking for a male and female (either a couple or two individuals) to accompany the teens as chaperones on this trip. Sign Up for Summer VBS—Summertime children’s ministry at Grace is back! Get ready for Splash Canyon, a fun adventure series running Sundays, June 3-July 29, 2018 for ages 3 through 12. Sign ups are available in the Grace and Parish Centers, as well as online at gracedown.org/splashcanyon. Teens 13 and older are encouraged to help! Kayak Milwaukee River—Join Grace YP for kayaking on Saturday, June 30 at 1 p.m. Grace is generously subsidizing this event so you only have to pay $15 (normally $30) for up to four hours on the river. This event is kid-friendly and open to everyone - not just Grace YP, and not just Grace members. Bring your family, friends, and co-workers! For those 21 and older, adult beverages are allowed in the kayaks and we will plan on docking at a few bars for drinks. Outreach with St. John’s on the Hillside—Help with canvassing in the Hillside neighborhood on Saturday, June 2. Meet at the St. John’s Activity Center (next to church on Vliet & 8th Sts.) at noon for training and then an hour of talking with neighbors. It’s a great way to get to know the spiritual needs of the neighborhood and share invitations to connect with Jesus. Contact Pastor Strong for more info.
