Happening at Grace

Called Worker Updates—Grace extended a call to Pastor Jonathan E. Scharf to serve as a fourth pastor. Please keep both him and Grace in your prayers as he continues to deliberate. Drew Carter was assigned to serve Grace as Minister of Discipleship. He starts July 1, after current Fritz Horn’s retirement at the end of June. God’s blessings as Grace’s ministry continues to grow!

PrimeTime Presentation—
On Wednesday, May 23, WWII veteran Gene Schulz will present a slide show of The Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame de Chartres, built southwest of Paris in the 12th century. The presentation tells the story of its construction—including 176 stained-glass windows which depict stories from the entire Bible—as well as the fascinating history of how it survived WWII without any damage. The lecture will be held 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Grace Center classroom. Cost for lunch and honorarium is $12. Outreach with St. John’s on the Hillside—Help with canvassing in the Hillside neighborhood on Saturday, May 26 and June 2. Meet at the St. John’s Activity Center (next to church on Vliet & 8th Sts.) at noon for training and then an hour of talking with neighbors. It’s a great way to get to know the spiritual needs of the neighborhood and share invitations to connect with Jesus. Contact Pastor Strong for more info.

Door Offering for Lucas Proeber—
Grace’s student senior
assistant Lucas Proeber will be preaching Sunday, May 27. As in years past, Grace will take a door offering for Lucas, to thank him for his year of service with us and to support and encourage him and his wife, Amy, as he continues to serve in the ministry.

First Fridays: Looking for Love—Local actress and soprano Natalie Ford is joined by Grace members Tim and Maggie Rebers for an evening of beloved ballads and duets from Broadway’s best and biggest musicals! Friday, June 1, at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary; light refreshments to follow.

Grace in Action June Event—
Join Grace in Action on Saturday, June 23, to plant flower beds with The Neighborhood House of Milwaukee, a local center offering programs for adults, teens, children, and immigrants. Learn more about the organization at

Assistant Manager for Grace Place Coffee. Grace Place seeks a coffee lover, who wants to work a couple weekday mornings as well as a weekend or two a month to meet neighbors and members, serve great food and drinks, and help with day-to-day tasks. Youth Rally Chaperones Needed—
On June 26-29, teenagers from Grace will travel to Bowling Green, Ohio for the WELS National Youth Rally, and are looking for a male and female (either a couple or two individuals) to accompany the teens as chaperones on this trip. Sign Up for Summer VBS—
Summertime children’s ministry at Grace is back! Get ready for Splash Canyon, a fun adventure series running Sundays, June 3-July 29, 2018 for ages 3 through 12. Sign ups are available in the Grace and Parish Centers, as well as online at

28th Annual WLHS Charity Golf Outing—
Register now for the Friends of Wisco Annual Charity Golf Outing set for Monday, June 18, at Hawk’s View Golf Club in Lake Geneva, Wis. New this year—choose between two different golf courses. Main course is $150 per person with shotgun start at 10 a.m. Optional par 3 course is $90 per person with shotgun start at 11 a.m. Price includes: green fees, golf cart, lunch and dinner, and two drink tickets.
