Happening at Grace

TODAY: Church Picnic—
The annual Grace church picnic begins at noon on Sunday, June 24 at beautiful LaFollette Park (1100 S. 92nd St.), two blocks north of Greenfield Ave. The park features an indoor shelter, wading pool, basketball court, kickball field, jungle gym, and tennis court. Hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, all utensils, and soft drinks will be provided. If you’d like adult beverages, you may bring your own. Please bring a dish to pass. If anyone would like to bring a dessert in addition, it would be greatly appreciated! A freewill offering will be taken. Sign up soon so our cooks know how much food to purchase. Sign-up sheets are in both the Parish Center and Grace Center, or you may email Fritz Horn at fritzjhorn@gracedowntown.org or by calling 414-271-3006.

This year’s church picnic will also serve as a time to celebrate and thank Fritz Horn for the 27 years he has dedicated to Grace’s ministry, and wish him blessings on the next chapter in his life.

Fourth Pastor Call Meeting—The next call meeting is set for Sunday, July 1, at 11:45 a.m. in the sanctuary.

Pardon Our Dust—Maybe you’ve noticed the scaffolding and heavy equipment on the Grace campus in recent weeks. This summer, the exterior masonry of our church building is getting some tender loving care: the foundation and brick walls will be tuckpointed and repaired, the terracotta ornamentation will be repaired as needed, and finally, the whole exterior will be cleaned from top to bottom. The three-month project is now about half-way completed. For more information, please contact church administrator Kevin Becker:
kbecker@gracedowntown.org.

Installation Service for Drew Carter—Grace’s new Minister of Discipleship, Drew Carter, will be installed on Sunday, July 15, during the 10:30 service. Meet, greet, and celebrate with Drew and his wife, Diana, at a luncheon in the Grace Center afterward. All Grace members are welcome and encouraged to attend the luncheon (kids, too!). Check your email or gracedowntown.org to RSVP online, or contact the church office by Friday, July 6. Meanwhile, continue to pray for Drew and Diana as they relocate to the Milwaukee area.

To welcome the Carters, consider giving nonperishable food items to stock their pantry or gift cards for restaurants, department stores, Target, Walmart, etc. Gifts will be collected in the Parish Center Lobby July 1-15 and unveiled at the luncheon. If you wish to support the luncheon through a monetary gift, mark it clearly and drop in the offering plate, or send it to the office.

New Communion Schedule—Beginning in July, Holy Communion at Grace will be celebrated on the second and fourth Sundays of the month instead of the second and last Sundays. The change in schedule is in the interest of liturgical variety and to make use of the new resources.

Sign Up for Splash Canyon!—Summertime children’s ministry at Grace is back! Get ready for Splash Canyon, a fun adventure series running Sundays through July 29, 2018 for ages 3 through 12. Sign ups are available in the Grace and Parish Centers, as well as online at
