Luther’s Catechism Questions #44-50
The Third Commandment
The Third Commandment:
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
What does this mean?
We should fear and love God that we do not despise preaching and his Word, but regard it as holy and gladly hear and learn it.
Even though it is not required by God that we worship on one specific day, my children enjoyed talking about the special time that Sundays are for our family. They also enjoyed looking at the Sundays of the Church Year section. We talked about the festival half and the non-festival half of the church year. The festival half of the Church year is the time from Advent to Pentecost including Christmas and Easter where we focus on the life of Christ. The non-festival half of the church year begins with Trinity Sunday and extends through November and we focus on what a Christian life looks like. In both, we see God’s love for us.
