Unbulldozeable

Bulldozing bricks is one thing. Busting up belief is quite something different

I read with both amusement and resentment the eight line newspaper article tucked in the bottom corner. "Man Demolishes Church With Bulldozer" the headline read. Yup, another anti-religious fanatic taking out his frustration on God by destroying God's house. My guess, however, is that the group of Christians who formerly used that place of worship are uniting together and responding with something like, "You can bulldoze our church, but you can't break our spirit!"

Bulldozing bricks is one thing. Busting up belief is quite something different.

When Jesus said, "Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock" (Matthew 7:24-25) he wasn't making a structural guarantee a but spiritual one.

Listen to Jesus. Stand on his promises. Receive his forgiveness. Act with faith. And you'll be unbulldozeable. Oh, yes, cancer may strike and hurricanes may destroy and violence may attack but none of it can break the spirit of someone who believes in Jesus.

"Though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging," Psalm 46 reminds us … "we will not fear." Not because we are so strong, but because "God is within" us. And nobody can bulldoze our Mighty Fortress.

Stand strong today in spirit. And then let your life reflect what your heart believes.

PRAYER: You are my refuge and strength, O God, my ever-present help in trouble. When my world collapses give me the faith to believe that nothing can rob my spirit from your love and care. When my intentions and ideas crash help me remember that you never leave me and will work everything out for my good. When my obedience to your will breaks and my right living shatters then relieve my guilt with the unbulldozable forgiveness that you promise in Christ. Amen.
