Night Lights and Day Light

Turning off security lights during the day need not cause us alarm.

Night lights.

We need them. The comforting green glow from a lava lamp. The safety of vehicle headlights. The light above the stove perfect for a late night ambiance much less radiant than overhead fluorescence. TV glare that allows us to read.

But we don’t need them – during the day. So it’s okay, really, to turn off that lava lamp in the morning or the stove light for lunch. You’ll see just fine without them.

Death is like a night light. Putting out the lamp because the dawn has come. So it’s okay. Really.

PRAYER: Jesus, Light of the World, you are my dawn of the new day. As the sun rose to greet the world on that first Easter Sunday so did you. As each new day welcomes me with its light, so will heaven’s eternity smile upon me and all believers. Shine brightly on me with your love today, so that I can turn off my own security lights and use that power to serve you. I can’t wait to see you in the eternal dawn; until then, keep me glowing in the one true faith. Amen.
