Lenten Prayer - The Accusation
Jesus, help me believe your promise that I am not responsible to pay for my sins.
You have never done anything, Jesus, to dishonor the name of heaven, to bring shame upon your reputation, or to cause me to question your loyalty and love. Yet I have dishonored you, shamed you, and doubted you. I have accused you of crimes you have not committed. I was there when the crowd accused you.
Since you suffered under the accusation of my sins, forgive me, Jesus, and help me believe your promise that I cannot be cursed.
Since you accepted my guilt, release me from my shame, Jesus, and help me believe your promise that I am not responsible to pay for my sins.
When my friends accuse you of teachings that cannot be accepted by the world's so-called wisdom, speak through me to correct them gently and encourage them lovingly.
When my sinful self accuses you of foolishness whenever you call me to follow your leadership in faith, enliven your Spirit living in me so that I am not afraid and I gladly trust your way.
As you showed restraint at times, and at other times rebuked those who accused you, give me wisdom and courage to help those who do not appreciate you in faith.
I praise and thank you, Jesus, for protecting me from evil accusation that may harm my soul, and for blessing me and others with your forgiving love. Amen.
