He's Interested

All right. You're not the finest specimen of a super Christian in the bunch.

Have you lived up to your expectations for yourself this week? Then again, have you lived up to God’s expectations for you? Those are as high as heaven.

If you haven’t and there’s a pity party giving you heartburn just thinking about it, consider the fact that God is still interested in making you the child of his he knows you can be. After assuring us that we’re saved by grace, the Bible says that believers are "God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works" (Ephesians 2:10). And God don’t make no junk.

All right. You’re not the finest specimen of a super Christian in the bunch. Then again, neither am I. So what. We’re in good company.

Noah got drunk. Moses stuttered. David’s armor wouldn’t work. Mark was rejected by the apostle Paul. Timothy had ulcers. Hosea’s wife was a prostitute. Amos had no training for being a prophet of God other than picking figs. Jacob lied too much. David had an affair. Solomon was too rich and Job became too poor. Abraham was too old and Joseph was too young. Peter was afraid of death and Lazarus was just plain dead. Naomi was a widow. Paul was a murderer. Jonah tried to run from God.

What matters isn’t how we look when God calls us. What matters is how God looks at us so that we answer, "Here am I! Send me!" God is interested, through Christ Jesus, in making you a piece of his work, just like the believers of old listed above. Go to work for him today!

PRAYER: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me! Amen.
