Heaven's "High" Way
God is so outside our box …
I must admit that even though I’ve entered the elite status of being a frequent flyer, I still don’t have a clear idea how a Boeing 727 takes off, stays in the air, and then can land on the ground at a couple hundred miles an hour and stop more quickly than a squealing semi-trailer on I-94. But my lack of understanding doesn’t make that plane or its pilot any less capable of getting me from point A to point B safely and quickly.
There will be times when you simply don’t understand God’s how or why. Like weary Abraham leaving for a distant country, or little David stepping in front of a giant, or faithful Daniel refusing to give up his devotion to God and being tossed to the hungry lions. There will be obstacles to conquer and paths to cross where you are tempted to say, “Impossible.” But your lack of understanding doesn’t limit God in the least. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts,” our awesome God reminds us (Isaiah 55:9). When you say, “No way,” He says, “Yes way.” When you think it can’t be done, he thinks it can.
God is so “outside our box,” so beyond you when it comes to the desire to want something and the dominion to make sure it happens, that you can’t understand him. Isn’t it great to have a God who isn’t limited to what you can conjure up? That means you aren’t limited to what you can imagine. Heaven’s “high” way takes you to places far above anything you’d ever expect.
More loved by God than you’ll ever know. More secure in life’s paths then you can ever find. More forgiven than you’ll ever feel. More powerful over sin’s temptation than you’ll ever think. Stronger and more stable to face the future than you’ll ever imagine. Head up heaven’s “high” way.
Let God be your travel agent and chart your course through the week into eternity. Let God be your traffic controller and help you through when things get to be too much. Let God be your tour guide and take you to places you’d never know on your own.
PRAYER: You know the way, Jesus, when I think there is no way. You preserve the truth, Jesus, when I think there is nothing certain in this world. You offer a life, Jesus, more wonderful than anything I think I can arrange. Lead me in your way, speak to me with your truth, and fill me with your kind of life. Amen.
